This is one half of my diploma thesis.
I created a fictitious hip hop and soul label, called Bedstuy (New York), based on Bedford-Stuyvesant. I used pictures from the late 70’s and early 80’s by Martha Cooper, Jamel Shabazz and Joe Conzo, who made some extraordinary streetstyle photography and the early Hip Hop Days in New York and illustrated them with type and lettering. Most of the type is handlettered in InDesign, Photoshop or by brushlettering.
