Genius Loci

Genius Loci is a Latin term often used in architecture to describe the distinctive atmosphere or pervading spirit of a place. This series of photographs explores the less familiar facets of the UAE’s topography, amalgamating natural and social elements of the landscape into one ephemeral unit.

By employing the ‘road-trip’ approach, the photographer embarks on a journey of self-discovery, hence the resulting images are an attempt to express his genuine interest in the world outside by exploring that which he holds within him. They emerge as an autobiographic gesture, a combination of rediscovered memories, impressions and influences.
