I recently had a passing conversation with a former work colleague, who now runs a 3D printing company. Most recently, he's been supporting the UK Covid-19 fightback by printing and supplying PPE for hospital workers.

Coming out of Lockdown, we both thought it might be fun to do a collaborative project - so that he had something a bit different to help promote his business.

He offered to develop a 1:10th scale model of one of my designs - and we settled on the Porsche 962 concept I'd designed about 18 months ago.

The 3D print work is still in progress - as he's fitting this in alongside priority jobs, but I couldn't wait to post a few pictures here to show what we're up to.

It's going to be mega - and a real privilege for me to see one of my personal hobby projects brought to life.

2020-06-17     Progress so far - including initial low res draft test piece for nose .  . I'll update with more images as the build progreses
2020-06-18     My CAD rendered impression of how it'll look once assembled. It should look pretty cool once finished - around 400mm long.

2020-06-18     Just for fun - some passing thoughts on potential alternative colourways.

I wanted to keep my model unpainted so that it shows off the natural finish of the 3D print.
We've therefore split the data to colour the design as per "TROOPER"
2020-06-27     Model complete

I got the call this morning from James - the model is ready for collection.
Needless to say, I jumped in the car straight away and went to go collect it!

It's SOOOOOO nice to finally get to see it and hold it - it's a really good scale. at 1:10 the details really come out well.
Print quality is very good - inevitably some fine print lines (as per most 3D print processes I've sen so far) - which could theoretically be sanded and filled - but I want to keep the model exactly as-is - so that we've got a good honest record of what James' kit is capable of.

Lighting today not great for photos, so I'll take some more detail shots using a decent DSLR when we get some more sun.

Brilliant to finally see it - thanks so much!
2020-06-27     Wall art

Again, I promise I'll take better photos -  but for now this is where the model will live - safe on the wall in the spare room where I hang out and play race games on my PS4. Looks really striking against the dark wall colour, and the overhead lights really help show off the form of the body-side.

Job done. A debt of thanks and more than a few beers owed to all at Lockdown 3D. Cheers guys!

My thanks again to James Lockley and Lockdown 3D for making this project happen.
