Print - In my free time I enjoy Lino Printing, creating fun designs involving some kind of play on words. More often than not i'm inspired by vintage packaging / graphics, then mixing that with a contemporary twist, but the opportunities are endless.
Why Lino printing - The process is rewarding, taking a sketch and then turning it into a graphic that can be mass produced. There is no speed to the process, time and care is taken with each print. Sketching the design, transferring the design to a block of Lino and then meticulously calving to create a relief. No reassurances either, the design may not even work when it's complete. Meaning planning and consideration at each phase, always being two steps ahead. That is the beauty of the process, its unpredictable and keeps you on your toes.
The outcome to Lino printing is different each time, that's what I love, the suspense and accomplishment I receive from each print. Nothing has to be perfect, if a section hasn't printed too well, then it adds to the effect creating a personal piece for the buyer. A sense of personality and warmth, with its artisan style.
New Designers 2019 was a blast, although what put the cherry on top was getting this mention for my business card design, which I hand printed, by a logo designer.
