The Fundamentals of Barrel Racing

An accomplished business executive with a wealth of marketing experience, Kendal A. Daiger is a partner in OneL Marketing and a director of marketing for Spruce Peak Realty. Outside of the professional arena, Kendal A. Daiger counts barrel racing among her favorite hobbies.

A timed rodeo event, barrel racing involves riding a horse around three barrels in a three-leaf cloverleaf pattern. The rider who completes this pattern in the shortest amount of time wins the barrel riding competition.

Riders benefit from clearing all three barrels cleanly. For every barrel hit during a ride, judges will add 5 seconds to the rider’s final time. Any rider who knocks a barrel to the ground is immediately disqualified.

Barrel racers must exhibit exceptional concentration and body control in order to find success in the sport. Because it requires precise synchronization between rider and horse, barrel racing is performed by individuals who have practiced extensively and established clear commands/signals with their animals.
