In a project to create something new and useful for an international design event (Confluence 20+ by HKDC) when people all over the world gather together for exchange, the topic “Tea” become quite naturally a subject for development, especially when we have the local slang 得閒飲茶(let’s drink tea sometime). Its meaning towards respect and hospitality have already deeply rooted in our culture and customs.
Concept of a mobile standing bar is to welcome people to gather around, stay, and chat freely with a cup of tea in more different places. Making tea drinking a more friendly, social and communicative behavior is the intention of the project.
Mobility is essential concern since the beginning of this project, the object to be created in this project has to be transportable enough and easy set up to be featured in the events in different location. So it feature a simple knock down and installation structure, suitable for storage and transports.
It is also an intention to create a casual vibe, so there is sliding plates to create extendable mini counters that turn the structure to be more like a standing bar, for a sense of relaxation.

The tea bar has been travelling around since the creation, Milan, Seoul, Chicago, Shanghai, serveral locations in Hong Kong, and shown up along with different event happenings.
Sometime there is extra installation to enhance the tea ceremonial experience, the tea bar is always an icon to gather the people around, stay and chat free with a cup of tea.
