Iridium: A Gig Poster

The objective of this project was to create a poster for a music gig. The band Iridium is an electronic trance band. They cater to teenage boys with exciting music that they can rave to.

I had to listen to a bunch of music in this electronic genre, it sounded almost foreign. The electronic slides and synth sounded destructive. With those concepts in mind I began to sketch out some of my ideas.
I decided to do something with a planet, I tried to make it look like it had just been destroyed, but I ended up really liking the look of it melting or exploding so I played with that idea a little bit.

Then came the draft.
It all felt very separate and disconnected. I felt that there were some things I could see but didn't know how to fix, so I asked some peers for help. They told me a lot of things, such as how the positioning of the star with the name of the band was too close to the edge, or that I needed to layer my objects to connect them. The most useful piece of information was to lower the saturation in a lot of my objects because they were all drawing attention.

I fixed all those things and added in some details to produce the final draft.
It now felt more like an electronic trance poster, the angst of teenage boys is shown through the explosion of the planet. There is an exploratory feeling which adds to the concept of trying new music for these boys. It feels foreign, there is destruction, everything just feels a bit off.
