Signage in movies are such a ‘blink and you will miss it’ element of film. They are a form of storytelling that often gets ignored but can also be essential pieces of narrative in film. For example, the print based on Scorsese’s ‘Taxi Driver’ could be the perspective of Travis (The main character), that all these signs represent the people around him. To him they are false advertisements of what lies beneath the surface of the individual.

All the films I have chosen so far have a theme in common which all the characters involved are chasing after. This is what is known as ‘The American Dream’. The key themes that the movies represent are loneliness, identity, love and hate but all have ‘The American dream at their cores. Whether if it is about, society, the individual, mental health, or false advertising. It all roots back to the idea of ‘the American Dream’ and what the truth of it is.
