Misty - oil on oak panel

Misty - Netherlandish portrait of a cat.
This is the complete painting in oils on solid oak panel in a hand-carved, solid oak frame with Trompe l'Oeil dark stone with gold-bearing quartz intrusions. 12.2x14.4"
The gold that you can see on the frame is 24 carat gold leaf.
For the reason that the polychromy of the fame extends to the outside of the frame, the whole thing is mounted in a tray frame so as to protect it and still show off the polychromy on the outside.
Close-up of the face, showing details in the eyes and whiskers.
Close-up of the right eye - all of the pigments used here are traditional pigments with the orange of the eyes being made from lead-tin yellow (I and II) and rose madder. The white is lead white that I had to make myself from roofing lead - details of how to do this on my home website.
Details of the left eye. The eyes are only around 10mm across so that gives you an idea of the scale of the detail here. The details in the eyes are painted with a 10/0 Kolinsky brush and on the eye brows, I used a 10/0 Kolinsky rigger brush.
Here is detail of the toy that the cat is holding. It head is 29mm across and its eyes are only 4mm across - around the same size as the sapphire and gold buttons on the jester top.
Each hair on the whole of the painting is painted individually, one at a time.
The trompe l'oeil writing at the bottom of the frame says Misty, aged 2 years in 2018 which is when I started this picture. Thanks to Covid-19 lockdown and shielding, I have had the time to complete it.
They say that the back of the painting tells as much as the rest of it so here it is. You can see the medullary rays of the quartersawn oak of the panel.
The oak panel is sealed with special framer's tape that contains a layer of aluminium so that it stays moulded to the frame and the panel and as such, can be removed from the tray frame and hung on its own if required.
The tray frame is sealed with normal framer's tape.
You can see this picture and many others on my website or you can buy it if you wish - just see the details on my website here.
