This stunning photograph was taken by Kevin Sutton for the Los Alamos National Laboratory's National Security Science publication.

As art director of the publication, for this particular article I really wanted abstract depiction of the augmented reality tools created by scientists at Los Alamos for first responders to Improvised Explosive Devices. I sketched out how the photo could layout with regards to the necessary type, captions and spine in mind–and Kevin took the photo in a dark studio. This photo, combined with Photoshop techniques, and some edited stock graphics to give the look of 'entering the virtual' world created an impactful opener to this feature in the magazine.
