Book Review of Joyce Carol Oates novel “Night. Sleep. Death. The Stars”, dissects the aftermath of the sudden & unexpected death of a wealthy family patriarch and how the remaining family—the widow & her five grown children—regress into racist and elitist arguments for claiming the estate. Underscoring the tragedy is that the patriarch was killed as a consequence of attempting to break up a couple of cops beating up on an Indian man.
