The KORB LAB

What makes us who we are? The Korb Lab at the University of Pennsylvania seeks to answer this age old question of nature vs. nurture through innovative research on neuroscience and epigenetics; how the world around us and our life experiences can influence gene regulation in the brain. The lab wanted a logo that incorporates complex symbols from its work, but in an abstract manner.

Using geometric shapes and negative space, I created a design that references the structure of a nuclesome (a type of protein), the connectivity of neurons, and enclosure within a lab. For the look and feel of the new logo, we incorporated dark yet vibrant colors and a hint of nostalgia to emphasize the lab’s quest to illuminate the parts of our lives that make us the people we are today.
