SAIC: MG World Art Car - Design Competition

An international, collaborative, design competition of World Art Car, automotive spray painting to promote cultural design representations of China, India, Chile, United Kingdom, and Australia. We composed a diverse range of cultural festival representations that come from the 5 major markets of MG.

The concept design elements on the vehicle’s front view represents China’s Dragon Boat Festival, as the design competition is based in Shanghai, China, we feel the need to use the same graphic elements to also cover the whole art car image to unite all the cultural reference together, bringing the sense of unity of cultural representation.

The rear-view concept design is based on India’s Festival of Diwali, a major cultural celebration within the country.

The car’s left view image symbolises the UK, by the famous landmark Big Ben, and the figure of the Royal Guard of Great Britain, a trademark tradition of British monarchy, which is also found in part of UK national festival.

The right view concept conveys Australia’s Moomba festival, with the figure of Australia’s iconic landmark the Sydney Opera House and the country’s national animal the kangaroo.

The top view of the car design was inspired by the country Chile’s festival ‘Day of the Dead’ (Dias Los de Muertos) which is also celebrated in other countries across South and Central America.

The purpose for our MG world art car was to be showcased at the MG Live 2018 Event exhibition in Silverstone Circuit, home of British Motor Sport Racetrack in Northampton, UK.
