Krave Kale-Lalu-yAHA I 2020
Krave Beauty is a cosmetics brand that is based in Korea. It provides vegan-friendly and cruelty-free products which are formulated without fragrance, essential oil, colorant and other potential allergic sensitizers.
The Concept Design
The Kale-Lalu-yAHA is a resurfacing facial exfoliator powered by AHAs (Hyaluronic Acid) that smooths out texture and fades discoloration to reveal healthier skin.
Krave Beauty prides itself in the usage of colours as signifiers of the main ingredients that are present in their products. For this instace, the colour green is used on packaging and web designs to represent the use of Kale as the main ingredient in the product.
The Improvement
While the current design is a simple and effective way of communicating their product’s contents to their customers, the elements could tie in more harmoniously to deliver a clearer understanding of the product. That is, rather than just focusing on the colour, shapes can help to convey vital information as well.

01 | Visual Signifiers Research
When it comes to water-based products, the most common symbol utilised to represent that would be the water droplet. A single droplet seen from a distance is enough to persuade any individual that the product associated with some sort of liquid.
02 | Typography and Font
Leah Maldonado’s Glyphworld Airland font was selected as the main font for this project. Described as an “expressionist type design”, the font was designed as an idea of incorporating Earth’s landscapes into typography and like the Airland font, each font in the Glyphworld family is meant to reflect an emotional connection to our environment.
With Krave Beauty’s dedication to promoting vegan-friendly products by using organic ingredients such as Kale in this case, Glyphworld Airland is the perfect font that resonates with the brand motto.
Through this, I selected 2 distinct colours, Forest Green to represent the organic nature of the products and Stone Grey as a monochrome colour to balance the overall look and feel to the design.
