Bruin Sign Goaltender Jaroslav Halak to 1Year Extension

Thomas "Tommy" DeFranzo is the owner of a Windsor, Connecticut, hot-rod shop that builds life-sized replica Hot Wheels vehicles. Outside of his professional pursuits, Thomas DeFranzo enjoys following the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL).

In May, with the 2019-20 NHL season suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bruins ensured it would have depth at the goaltender position for the 2020-21 season when it signed Jaroslav Halak to a one-year, $2.25 million contract extension. Halak split time between the pipes with Tuukka Rask this season, playing in 31 games, over which he went 18-6-6 to go along with a 2.39 goals-against average (GAA) and .919 save percentage. He also had three shutouts.

Through 520 career regular-season appearances, the 35-year-old native of Slovakia has a 2.48 GAA and .916 save percentage. He joined the Bruins prior to the 2018-19 season and previously played with the New York Islanders, Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues, and Montreal Canadiens, the last of which selected him in the ninth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
