Neca Project

Neca is a gay slang in the Brazilian LGBT community, it means penis. The word itself has origin from the Pajubá, a language used by Afro-Brazilan religious people like Candomblé.

It is based on Umbundo, Kinkongo and other Africans languages and has been assimilated by the Brazilian gay scene, as a code to not be understood by outsiders.

Inspired in this particular word, I have developed some T-shirts to raise funds and help the local community, marginalized by its existence, especially Trans women, often exposed to violence.

The brand plays with the words Neca and Nike. In Brazilian Portuguese it has a close pronunciation, so I tried to conceive the visual Identity close to this Sport atmosphere, as well bringing graphic elements that reminds phallic objects and São Paulo night scene.

The urban Latin American perspective is another main character in this project.
