CLINIC KID HEROES is an interactive, RPG (role-play game) inspired, educational web app mainly for children aged 4 - 8, who are afraid of going to the clinic, especially vaccination and dental appointments. Where they can role-play as fearless superheroes going through heroic quests, starting from home to clinic, before facing their medical fear as a brave hero!
Giving children options on how their supposedly fearful clinic adventure goes gives them power in a powerless situation, so that there will be less afraid, and there's no need to scare them with needles, lying to make them feel better, or entirely avoiding the appointment itself.
The parents are required to go through a “tutorial” of the dos and donts in the beginning for accompanying their children to appointments, and then proceed to the appointment form to get their child registered.
There are touch points where it correlates with the real life environment, such as when the child is asked to approach a doctor character or a nurse character in app, the said nurse/doctor in charge of the day will be wearing a name tag and a surgical mask that matches the character.
What happens at the clinic and during procedure?
During waiting time, the child scans one of the QR codes pasted in the clinic, and is given a "Play and Learn" educational story game on assisting in-game characters on their own clinic visits, and as well as learning healthy tips, such as how to brush your teeth, or what do doctors use on check ups.
And during the procedure, the child gets to play a mini game where it distracts them from the big scary needle, such as counting 1 to 10 together.
Rewards for being a brave superhero!
After the appointment, the screen will show them a congratulatory message, before revealing that they will be given presents from the doctor, such as a bandage for the needle wound or a toothbrush to keep your teeth clean.
It also serves as a reminder that they should keep themselves healthy in a fun, colourful way.
