Teaching materials for the teachers of English as a foreign language for adult learners
Scanty variety of English teaching resources for adults, not individualized approach to teaching of English and insufficient care of the esthetic details of course books has made me to create an exemplary educational set which helps a teacher to effectively go beyond the well-worn methods of teaching a foreign language.
The three prepared items create the set which is methodologically, systematically and esthetically unconventional and additionally is well-thought out. The most comprehensive part is a course book, which deals with not easy issue of tenses. With the aim of presenting the recipients with a sample of some good English literature, the book has been composed based on the 3 chapters of the ironic American novel "Catch 22" by Joseph Heller. Each chapter is devoted to a different problem concerning particular tenses. What is more, each chapter has a legend explaining how to read a particular section. The first consists in revealing the missing fragments of a text, a sentence in a given tense, and the related picture. By bending the squares in the right order, the student reveals the sentence together with the picture showing the context. The form of the second chapter is a sort of a commentary to the tense itself, in this case it is past perfect. You look at the sentences in past perfect through the cut-out windows, so it visually shows that the past perfect actions happened earlier than those in past simple.The last chapter is a basket of all English continuous tenses presented on a colourful time axis. Each colour refers to a different time period, i.e. past perfect, past simple, present and future.There, you can find special pictures on stripes. When you draw out the stripe the actions are being created.
The brief, humorous leaflet explaining how to read each section is attached to the course book. The same manual actions which are applied in the course book are here - the leaflet opens repeatedly presenting the successive information.
Additionally,there is a specially designed folder for a teacher or a student, who often has to manage a vast amount of handouts which are frequently lost, forgotten or looked for. The folder makes it possible to easily segregate the materials into the special compartments. The outer case has a hole for carrying.
All elements have a similar outlook and form and their aim is to activate, give pleasure and inspire all interested in learning and teaching English.
