Gary Lightbody, the front man of Snow patrol, has been holding Saturday Songwriting sessions with his followers on Instagram during the 2020 Covid19 Lockdown.
Every Saturday he writes a song, live, from a system of chord and lyric input from his followers in the comment stream. He's comprising these songs into an album and invited the followers to design the front cover for the album. This is my design entry for the competition.
Gary was adamant about it being a collaboration project about his followers, not about Snow patrol or himself.
I wanted to make a monument, something great that came out of all of us involved.
I decided to create a face (I decided the most fitting one was Gary's after all) that was made up of all our faces as pixels on puzzle pieces.
As Gary was still carrying on with these sessions I wanted to make the puzzle incomplete. Later I started thinking about the unfortunate people who sadly didn't make it through the pandemic. The missing puzzle pieces are the empty spaces left behind by the people that didn't make it. They are also the space reserved for their input as well, that's why some of these puzzle pieces cover the lighter areas of Gary, the lighter areas are built out of our pixels.
