Birds of paradise is a set of bath utilities – a liquid soap dispenser (the large bird) and several bath oil bottles (the small birdies).
As with every design I do I start with a diagram that shows the object from different points of view. That way I can control every aspect of the design as a whole system.
The color was a major player in the design so sketching with watercolor was an intuitive yet a bit unusual choice.
The birds are fabricated from acrylic plastic finished to look like porcelain. The plastic, while looking quite expensive, is much more durable and doesn't shatter when dropped.
The large bird is a soap dispenser – you press on the head and the soap comes out the beak. It has a removable bottle inside so refilling would not be an issue. A silicone plug acts as a bottle fixture and provides non-slippery base for the bird.
These quite birdies are containers for aromatic bath oils.
Non-slippery silicone plugs keep the birdies from accidentally falling and also fix the bottles with oils inside the birds.
