Musical Light Drum [Student Project]

This sound object is like a music box. Except, the sounds are triggered by light

Underneath the metal drum from Ikea, are photocells. When a beam of light passes over a photocell, a sample is triggered.

Some holes are blocked, in a sense, it is programmable. Only open holes will trigger a sample. If the samples were percussive, it would be a drum machine.

An Arduino receives information from the photocells, then PureData processes the information

Also, the photocell information feeds into a PureData patch that synthesizes the generative "pads" which accompany the samples.
