Greeting Card Illustrations

Successful greeting cards typically feature simple gags and punchlines, and very straight-forward messages. The illustrations are either photographs or very cartoony drawings so it is easy to figure out what's going on. My designs very much go against this standard. The illustrations are elaborate, with subtle details that one might miss upon first glance. They are essentially single-frame stories, often with no accompanying text. It is always clear what occasion is being celebrated, but it is up to the viewer's imagination to figure out the rest.
Robot Birthday - Does that transformer-type robot have his name on his license plate? Will the robo-dog get any scraps of robo-cake?
Giant Cupcake - This one is actually pretty straight-forward...
Cake Hunter - You can set a trap for wild cakes using icing as bate. I don't know why the woman has a hunting knife with a compass on the hilt, though. That's not the kind of knife you use to cut birthday cake.
Cowboy Birthday - Poor, lonely cowboy, all alone on his birthday. At least he has a cupcake to roast over the campfire.
Jesus Birthday - I figured this would be a good transition between my birthday card designs and my X-mas Holiday card designs.
Evil Snowman - My thought was that there usually isn't enough danger in most X-mas cards.
Monkey Snowman - This snow-primate is less sinister than the previous one.
Hedgehog X-Mas - Why does this house have a picture of an alien above the fireplace? True, this could be a house where aliens live, but that doesn't explain why this alien is eating a hamburger in his graduation robe. Shouldn't he be more concerned about the tiger lurking behind him?
Santa's Big Supper - Yes, Santa has stacked a banana split sundae on top of an entire roast chicken which he plans to consume all by himself, meanwhile the Elf Apostles only get to eat one olive each. Also, Bartholomew has turned into a reindeer, for some reason.
Golden Goose - A pretty basic Mother's Day card.
Kung-fu Mom - A more action-packed Mother's Day card. A mom and son team up to battle a ninja, a pirate, a wolfman, a skeleton and an evil leprechaun.
Gator Golf - This is a Father's Day card design. Fathers like golf.
Fix-it Dad - This is another Father's Day card. Dads are good at fixing things.
Office Surprise - This is a Valentine's Day card. Many people think that is cupid who has smashed through the window, but really it is the woman's boyfriend who has planned an elaborate romantic gesture. Why would Cupid need a harness and fake wings when he has real wings and can really fly? Notice the painting on the wall. I actually made that painting for a friend of mine.
Zombie King and Queen - This may be the only Bastille Day card made by an American. I don't know for sure, but I've never seen another one. The story here has a happy ending, as even the executed King Henry XVI and Marie Antoinette get to join in on the celebration now that their heads have been reattached.
Big Foot vs. Nessie - This was designed to be a blank card. I'm not sure what occasion it would be appropriate for. Graduation maybe? Why is there a cat in the audience? And what about that mostly invisible alien with the glowing green eyes? And what about all the other weird stuff going on in this painting?
