USA Basketball is the national governing body for men’s and women’s basketball in the US. It is recognized by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Its main responsibility is to select, train, and field players in FIBA sponsored tournaments. Additionally, it is also mandated to develop youth basketball initiatives for coach education and player skills development.

USA Basketball developed the Player Development Curriculum which has four levels: Introductory, Foundational, Advanced, and Performance. The development techniques in each level are not based on age, physical attributes, or grade in school, but on movement skills and mastery of basketball.

The Introductory level teaches fundamental movement skills designed to build the player’s overall motor skills. The Foundational level takes up basic basketball-specific skills that will serve as the basic building blocks for the player’s overall basketball skills. The Advanced level builds the player’s strength and aerobic base while consolidating all the basketball skills. The Performance level maximizes the player’s fitness and prepares him or her for competition. The level is focused on individual and position-specific skills.
