"What would Ghent be like if we were to live in a post-fossil era?"
This was the starting question of the "Post-Fossiel Gent" contest.

Klankstad - Sound city in English - was a very imaginative installation I made together with Cin Windey. It was selected as one of five projects to exhibit in the final exposition in Ghent.

We wrote out 4 stories and interviews with future Ghentians, which Cin Boelens made into sound pieces for visitors to experience what living in the post-fossil city would be like. These contained some unexpected new professions, like city sound architects, or unusual events like the neighbourhood sound plan that was to be decided uponvoting by the residents, and many more ideas of how the post-fossile city would evoke a new consciousness of sounds and silence. Exposition visitors could listen to these through headphones.

Next to this we made 1 hidden sound experience that people could track with a stethoscope, by closely examining a wall of the installation.

The expo took place May 2018 in Nest, a temporary multipurpose space within the city of Ghent (located in the former library).
