Down the Rabbit Hole - Editorial Book Design

"Down the Rabbit Hole" - a redesigned version of 'Alices Adventures in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll. This version is inspired by the reasoning behind China banning the book in 1932. China's General, Ho Chien, banned the book due to its use of anthropomorphism; believing that the story was placing animals on the same level as humans. For many years, China's view of animals have raised much controversy. This version questions China's legal and mandatory testing of cosmetics on animals.

The redesigned version of 'Down the Rabbit Hole' brings you on a journey through the eyes of Chinese censorship. Inspired by origami and traditional Chinese text, words relating to animals have been censored or removed. Passages/ sentences are highlighted that challenge the viewer - "Tell me the Truth". The finished piece is an interactive, square 21 x 21 cm book accompanied by a website design. Paper cut details and origami surprises can been seen in the promotional video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GW9TRNN8s1Y.
