The pleasures and sorrows of work

Brief
We spend much of our lives at work - but surprisingly little gets written about what makes work both one of the most exciting and most painful of all our activities... The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work is an exploration of the joys and perils of the modern workplace, beautifully evoking what people get up to all day – and all night – to make the contemporary world function. With
a philosophical eye and his characteristic combination of wit and wisdom, Alain De Botton leads us on a journey around a deliberately eclectic range of occupations, from rocket science to biscuit manufacturing, accountancy to art – in the name of exploring what makes our jobs either fulfilling or soul-destroying. (Introduction text to Alain De Botton’s The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work published by Hamish Hamilton 2009.)
In this assignment you are asked to investigate and comment on the modern workplace through a case study or a series of case studies. You must make field trips to interview, observe and visually document people at work. Collect as much data as possible using a variety of media.

PLEASURES AND SORROWS OF WORK

I started this project thinking aboutworking on a kindergarten, I even go there and spend one day takingphotographs and doing interviews, but this work was very predictableand nothing new so after the first meeting with susanna and Andrewdecided to change the field of study and chose a restaurant.
Restaurants may be nothing new, but havealways been very attractive to me, I was two Sundays for the restaurantto spend the day with them, I really liked, I liked to have arrivedearly, at about 9:15 and all are already working in the kitchen, setingup the tables, cleaning floors, peeling potatoes, pureeing, cutingmeat, cuting onions, and other tasks of restaurants, is a very tiringjob, long hours always standing, and with huge pots and pans very heavy.
The Type
I chose to write by hand because the work in arestaurant, before the guests arrive, have an informal paperbut remainsas a restaurant to keep the class, I tried to draw a beautifulhandletter, which is quite difficult for me,and drew some ornaments
some photographs taken on the first day in the restaurant
The first time was in the restaurant hadn´t yet had any meeting withsusanna and with Andrew to talk about my change of field of study /work, so I tried to shoot a little bit of everything, without order, specific category or theme. At the meeting they told me that  I wasmore worried about getting good pictures, than documenting the job, andthe picture were to random, and that i should choose an area / theme ofthe restaurant, as I really liked all the euphoria, work, pace, stress(“not to burn breaded “) and all those tasks that are done before theguests arrive, I decided to do further work on activities in thekitchen and lounge, at the second time I was there. Like what wasmainly wanted conveying the frenetic pace experienced in the kitchen, Idecided to make a stop motion, because it is a technique that bestapply to this theme, as my pictures were not a sequel (movie) i createdall the movements from static images, putting people, arms and legs tomove, I conceived all images in photoshop, and then compiled them andgives them only sounds of kitchen, initially wanted to be a backgroundmusic but just sounds of kitchen attributed to it a more realcharacter, true, and mechanic. initially i recorded sounds in therestaurant with my phone, but as the Internet have better soundrecorded separately and it was easier to work i used them.
my work was about the tasks between the hours of opening the restaurant and among the possible arrival of customers
