Vancouver Contemporary Orchestra celebrates Beethoven's 250 birth anniversary. Beethoven 250 concludes by displaying his creation from its youthful dawn to climactic conclusion. His first symphony unfolded the beginning of a new era in music, building on the achievements of Haydn and Mozart. Symphony No. 9 remains an unquestioned masterpiece for the ages, perhaps the most famous of the entire classical repertoire, celebrating mankind’s potential through a message of praise, passion and glory.

sym·pho·ny /ˈsimfənē/ :
something regarded, typically favorably, as a composition of different elements.
I was tasked to design the visual identity for 'Beethoven 250', a festival by Vancouver Contemporary Orchestra. To express this idea, I constructed a modular brand identity system; playing with the idea of negative space and collage art where different elements came together in harmony to form an aesthetic composition. This was aimed at reflecting the nature and experience of a symphony in a visual format on to people's mind. The shifting visual expression lives together with a grotesque typographic set and a wide colour palette inspired by the nature of the show.

Identity System:
The graphic language for branding adds, substitutes, and borrows various components with a shared aesthetic that balances contemporary and classical elements, to form an aesthetic composition to denote an orchestra coming together to perform a symphony.
