Aerosol paint, adhesive marking dots and stickers on White stoneware clay, 2017

As part of a collaborative work with Whampoa residents for the "In An Echo We Remember exhibition (2017)", each student artist pairs up with an elderly resident to create an art piece that pays homage to their most valuable object. I paired up with Mdm Joyce who's object was 2 old Singapore $1 coins that are no longer in production. These coins were precious to her as they were given to her by her old boss, Mr Wong, who treated her kindly, as such, I decided to focus on her relationship with Mr Wong due to his impact in her life.

Wang-San is part 2 of the 'San' series. Consisting of 9 miniature white ceramic busts made in the likeness of Mr Wong, each miniature bust is dressed in shirts made from rows of marking dots and children’s stickers. The various solid colours pays homage to the colourful beaded coin purse that kept the precious coins- mementoes commemorating the 9-years relationship between Mdm Joyce and Mr Wong. By using my own childhood stickers, I drew a connection between my own past and Mdm Joyce's, serving as a personal reminder of my significant memories with absent loved ones from the past.
