Slowness in a Transitional Space

Design of the ceiling installation. It may seem like fabric or clouds to some; it allows users of the space to imagine and ponder what the design could be and to appreciate the the jagged imperfection of the materiality at the same time.
The overarching theme of the project is to raise awareness of the current fast-paced lifestyle that we all lived in and to promote the idea of having pocket of slowness in our daily lives. The idea is to create an ambience of slowness and an immersive space to “slow down” the mental and emotional state of the users of the space so that we are able to appreciate the space and the ephemeral moments that occur in our lives. This idea of this project is to challenge the idea of slowness in a fast-paced transitional space.
Model making process was a methodology that I adopted to explore the possibilities of this project. Repetition of forms coupled with lighting was explored in an attempt to slow one down within the space
Repetition of different materials with varying degrees of translucency were implemented in the space. This includes fabric, tracing paper and crepe paper.
Atelier Bow-Wow inspired line drawing of the installation design of the ceiling incorporated in the transit area.
An exploded axonometric view showing the design in relation to the scale of the space.
The lighting mimics the movement of the sun during the day, creating a different experience within the same space.
