Brief
How can I, as a graphic designer, create a body of work encouraging teenagers to listen to a broader range of musical genres; in particular, jazz?
Solution
My solution involves the formulation of a two-night musical event to be staged at Camden’s Roundhouse - The New Jazz Age.
The premise of the event is to invite several popular music artists to perform jazz arrangements of their most successful songs, accompanied by the fictional BBC New Jazz Orchestra, and organised by & broadcast live on BBC Radio 1. The target audience of my project brief is analogous to that of BBC Radio 1, and so should make my outcome appealing to the appropriate demographic. The visual language of my work is influenced by the fluidity of jazz as a creative art form. The desired achievement of the event is to introduce a younger generation to more diverse musical genres through the association of recognisable, mainstream acts.
