These posters were designed to promote the production of Macbeth by San Francisco State’s School of Theatre & Dance.

The department’s description of the play reads –
The shortest and bloodiest of all Shakespeare’s tragedies, Macbeth tells of the physical and psychological toll of unfettered ambition.  Macbeth’s pursuit of power leads us through triumph on the battlefield to the bloody assassination that gains him the crown, but at what cost?

These posters sought to illustrate the play’s themes of death, madness, and guilt while implementing the metaphor of blood.

Several quotes that served as inspiration for the posters include:
“Will all great Neptune's oceans wash this blood clean from my hand?"
"I am in blood Stepped in so far that should I wade no more. Returning were as tedious as go o'er."
