San Francisco State University Gateway

San Francisco State University Gateway
The SF State Gateway provides online access to check news articles from the University, student resources, access to the student center where you can enroll for classes, make a payment, check on financial aid status, and order official SF State Transcript.
Students from SF State used Gateway as a bridge to access the student center to take care of any business from the university, however, students don’t find Gateway interesting to navigate because the webpage has limited features that students don’t want to spend there time to go through the Gateway site, as a student, I used Gateway for nothing else just to get into the student center, but I realize Gateway also provides links to get students to apply for resources from the university, however, those links are easy to skip to anyone because Gateway has a problem with there webpage interface to promote those resources to the students which are important for the school to make it visible to anyone from the university. Therefore, to make the SF State Gateway site has a way for students to navigate and do anything from there, I propose that Gateway should be a student portal hub where students can get access on any resources from the university they provide, also have a way where the student can get connected from the campus by checking their class schedule, making any payments, check on any event and of course, having access to the student center from the new SF State Gateway main menu.

Challenges
- Research for new components for the website to accommodate user needs
- Setting up interviews to ask students/staff/ faculty to have feedback about Gateway and get ideas on what they want to see for newcome students/staff/faculty.

Approach
During my research, my supervisor and I from the Information technology services at SF State, we conduct interviews to ask students and staff member about how they feel with the use of SF State Gateway, during the interview, i was surprise on how students react on how they use gateway, for example, staff member, we ask them about how they feel about the SF State gateway interface and they word they use to describe the Gateway page is that is messy, there’s not a lot of content to use, what i realize that staff member use Gateway just to insert they time sheet for work, so my approach for this is i would like to interview faculty member to get their perspective thinking about gateway and how they use this platform for the school.
For the project, i’m creating a content audit to explore on what the SF State Gateway has to offer and research more about it.
