FOFO®

124 million people are visually impaired due to Uncorrected Refractive Error (URE) and 90% live in hard-to-reach areas. A vast majority of people with URE reside in the rural areas of developing countries.
The Folding Foropter ,aka, FOFO was developed to combat disproportionate access to eye care in the low resource areas. The device is a simple paper cut-out that folds around two lenses, forming two tubes that slide in and out of each other. Varying the distance between the two lenses by sliding the tubes gives an approximate refractive error of the eye.

The device is designed to be intuitive, robust and engaging so that it can be used by a laymen without professional help.
