Open was published in the LGBTQIA publication AZEjournal Vol. 3 Iss. 1 "Discovering Identiy", with one version of the concept also being the cover art of that issue.
Concept
I'm not a sculptor, but for me identity isn't something that can be grasped in a flat medium.
It changes depending on situational environment, relates to other people in my social sphere, develops over time. It's an eternal work in progress. And very personal.
So this installation is an invitation to create rather than a created object: After a few rounds, the act of cutting shapes from paper, rearranging and reconnecting them becomes procedural memory. This lets your mind rest and leaves you open to reflect on who you are.
