Method final year project
‘Method’ focuses on the anxiety that comes from the lack of control over the passing of time and the importance of self-care rituals which can subdue anxieties and help the sufferer gain a sense of control of time again.

The piece follows Square Boi in his quest to make a cuppa. Secluded in his work space and isolated from others all Square Boi wants is that cup of tea. He goes about this methodically collecting all the items he needs for his long awaited brew. Even when he feels threatened and powerless he resolutely moves forward in anticipation of his reward.

These slow meditative rituals such as the process of preparing a cup of tea, doing ones makeup or even preparing a bath can ease the nerves in times of anxiety and feelings powerlessness.

This has unexpectedly become an especially relevant topic now during the Covid-19 outbreak as more people feel a loss of control and security, isolated and pressure to be more productive in quarantine than normal. These feelings can be debilitating for some thus it is important more than ever to practice rituals of self-care and reflection.
