Vietnam Veterans Memorial

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial located on the National Mall in Washington, DC and officially opened on November 13, 1982. Maya Lin designed the memorial. The interesting thing is that Lin is not a trained architect, also does not have a bachelor's degree in architecture. For this design competition, the memorial must be non-political and contain the names of all persons who were confirmed dead or missing during the Vietnam War. Lin's design was fortunately adopted. Her design includes the names of nearly 58,000 American soldiers, arranged in chronological order of their loss, and was etched in a V-shaped wall of polished black granite that sank underground. I like this comment "One needs no artistic education to see this memorial design for what it is “a black scar, in a hole, hidden as if out of shame.” Lin integrated the meaning of the memorial hall and the shape of the memorial hall and designed the form of the design hall with his feelings of history, which is innocent and straightforward. It also touched me, and some emotions can be expressed from the outside of the building.
