Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa
Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa (BGFA) is an initiative that aims to build markets for off-grid energy with a view to providing clean, affordable and sustainable energy to at least 5 million people across Africa by 2025.

Our brief was to develop a a professional yet approachable brand identity,  multi-lingual website and brand materials that were in keeping with both the vision of the initiative and the people which it serves.

The inspiration behind the brand identity was initially led by our research into African art, fabrics and textures. We wanted to develop a mark that both celebrated the idea of African community and people coming together, and that was reflective of the sustainable nature of the project. A minimal, yet warm palette of yellow and grey draws on the idea of solar energy and electricity, and at the same time ensures both an approachable yet credible and trustworthy feel to the brand. A friendly sans serif typeface gives the brand a sense of authority and professionalism. The chosen typeface has rounded corners to soften the feel of the type, making it appear more approachable. The design collateral has a modern, stylish simplicity, giving it a polished feel but always ensuring that content is easy to consume. This translates directly into the website whereby a simple and intuitive user experience was paramount to the success of the website across their user base.
