Optima, The beauty of Typografie

OPTIMA, The Beauty of Typografie
I have used the word 'Optima Font' to create an image of a Santa Croce church in Florence. My objective
is to illustrate the beauty of typographic of optima typeface. At the same time, I used it to tell a little story
about Optima.

“The beauty of typografie”. Typografie is typography in German language. The reason of me using German language is simply because the designer Hermann Zapf is a German. This legible font leads itself to a wider range of applications. We use it to portray a modern yet classic effect in appearance.
Optima was designed between 1952–1955 by German typeface designer Hermann Zapf. He made his first sketches while visiting the Santa Croce church in Florence. Furthermore, Hermann Zapf intends was to create classic roman in proportion and character, without serifs.

In type classification Optima is a Humanistic typeface. Optima typeface was released in 1958. However, He also designed other popular types like Palatino and Zapfino. Optima combined the features of both serif and sans serif into a humanistic design.

In 2002 Hermann Zapf and Linotype GmbH type director Akira Kobayashi redesigned the font family into what the called Optima Nova, which contained 7 new font weights. Optima are now a trademark of Linotype corp. The Optima typeface, like all of Zapf’s designs, was widely admired and imitated a few times.
