We were commissioned by the BBC to research, design and prototype a completely new Radio app, dedicated to bringing mobile radio from the BBC's network of stations to life. The end result was a functioning radio app, complete with station dial, schedule, and alarm.
We developed a station dial interface. Designed to be reminiscent of analogue tuner dials and the original iPod menu dial, we wanted to create something that was fun, ergonomically easy and impactful.
As the radio plays, the songs or content on air is shown in a laterally scrolling panel.
If you turn the app on it's side, it shows the schedule EPG, which can slide back and forth through time.
One of the key features was an alarm clock, so you can wake up to your favourite show, whenever it's on.
Programme information is kept discreet, behind the main panel, and is revealed with a flip.
Many of the features and interfaces in the prototype are now available in the excellent BBC designed and built iPlayer Radio app.
