How do you design a logo and identity for something that existed before even we were born? Well, we did. We travelled back in time with the current owners Nishaanth and Poojitha of The Grange Hotel in the beautiful town of Ooty. They started narrating us the story of the hotel which has been standing since 1860. A British Bungalow owned, by a musician named Mysquith. A place where music, theatre, opera rehearsals and music from accordion was so common. Through time it changed hands and it became a British Army cottage and then in the free India, many owned it. Finally it came in the hands of Nishaanth and Poojitha.

What could be a better way to design a logo than going back to the technique of 1860 itself. Wood carving and tone rendering method. It was not much about the technique, but the fact that the bungalow had a story to tell. And like in the good old days when there was no photography, they documented everything through paintings and sketches. We did the same. We used the thickness of the lines to separate the light tone from the dark tone. In Fact, we also used Silk Screen printing to see if we could achieve a similar result of the 1860s. The Grange Hotel is not a place where you stay. It’s a place where you relive the stories. The Grange Hotel is the house of stories.
