Emergency Operations Center

1st place
Kaira Looro International Competition

Emergency Operations Center aims at providing immediate relief after the disaster; therefore, it is characterised by an easy assemble and disassemble process, a compact and flexible structure, and an adaptability to rapidly changing conditions. Such peculiarities have been achieved by introducing a system of a single, prefabricated element – a rectangular plywood board with cuts which – by sliding one board into the other – creates a waffle-like wall construction.

Such a system provides a wide range of flexibility – each wall might be easily adapted to current needs by adding or removing horizontal and vertical boards wherever and whenever needed. Ergonomic dimensions of each board make it possible to pack all elements on one truck and transport them to the desired site immediately.

The structure has also a utilitarian function: it is a space to store packages with goods that arrive at the shelter and might be arranged freely to provide the privacy inside. The shelter is also equipped with a storage room, a compostable toilet (that uses wood shavings) and a tank to collect and filtrate rainwater that might be distributed for people in need.
