Hungarian Museum of Natural History Identity Design

First step of planning the image was to initiate the mood and to express the message of the concept. Key-words for the museum are nature, harmony, flora and fauna, science, joy and game. Core idea behind the brand is to light the childlike excitement of enjoying nature science in a simple way. During the planning phase of the logo my purpose was to create a symbol with strong features that is easy to remember, and to be ensured in that the logic of concept can be found behind every aspects of the image. It is also important that the spectator could easily associate based on the image, and the logo shows long-lasting existence. This concept presents the historical institution of Museum of Nature and Science in a new, modern way that is met with the present expectations as well.
Blur of the museum’s primer logo forms a letter ‘M’, which refers both word Museum and the hungarian word ‘Hungarian’ (Magyar). First static shaft and the following waves are reflecting the connection between nature and human. Conventional initial ‘M’ is the core motif of the image that represents flora and fauna: it can be easily interpreted as a stylized snake or even a fossil, but as a symbolic meaning, it could present the progression of nature science researches and its complexity.
