Abhimanyu defeated every one who came in his path. Abhimanyu knew only to enter but not break chakravyuh. He had only two options either to run away but it was only possible before then seventh circle. instead of running he stepped in the seventh part also. Now from here only option left was to kill all kauravas or at least the main players or keep them engaged till sunset.

When kauravas understood they cannot beat Abhimanyu, scared of his valor they all attacked him and made him weaponless. Karna broke Abhimanyu's bow from behind. Abhimanyu was badly injured and became powerless. Dushashana's son challenged him to a mace fight. Abhimanyu had nothing left in him because of thousand wounds while other opponent was fresh. but still he picked up a mace and fought both fell while fighting , opponent rose up early and broke his head.
