Tactilu / Itaka Centre for Missing People

TACTILU is a bracelet capable of transmitting touch between two individuals even when they are miles apart. Equipped with a touch sensor on the upper side of the device which converts swipes and pokes into tactile/haptic motion on the lower side of another TACTILU.

Developed as an art project and R&D project for ITAKA Centre for Missing People (as a possible alternative for simple fundraising-bracelets), TACTILU uses technologies such as quantum tunneling composite (QTC) for the pressure sensitive touch sensor and flexinol wire which allows muscle-like behaviour for mimicking touch.

The data about touch from one TACTILU is sent to another TACTILU using internet connection provided by the smartphones of TACTILU owners and Bluetooth is used for communication between smartphones and the devices.
Designed by new media art group panGenerator in cooperation with Polish branch of Cheil Worldwide.

Exhibited at Łódź Design Festival 2013
Exhibited at Milan Design Week ("Polish Job", 2014)
