Project date 2018

My role Interactive Art Director, Video Director, Storyboarding

Project Summary Featured as YouTube video bumpers (before and after content), these programmatic ads show how easy it is to use your Google Home Hub with Nest and other smart home accessories.

Personas Smart Home Users, Google Users, Nest Users, Tech Enthusiasts

The challenge Six seconds before or after a video is not a lot of time to tell a story, let alone capture a person's attention and get them to perform an action.

Solution Every story needs a hero, and in this case the Google Home Hub became the holiday hero. Able to speak with whomever rang your video doorbell, to turn on your holiday lights, to play some relaxing fall music, to change the thermostat on a cold day. All with a user’s voice command. These bumpers were served to viewers of holiday YouTube videos, in the fall of 2018. This way, the users were treated to a feature at an optimal time while they were thinking about the holidays.

Results In 2018 these video bumpers helped turn the Google Home Hub into a hot holiday gift. We were able to track a sharp upturn in Google Store traffic, Google searches, and feature specific usages on Google Home devices.
