Backpack Program Bridges the Gap for Children in Need

A New Orleans entrepreneur and former restaurant manager, Zachary Addison has served as an apprentice with Boudreaux Builders since 2019. In this role, he shadows the company’s owner to learn about the design and construction of commercial and custom home projects. In his free time,
Zachary Addison supports charitable organizations including the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank.

Utilizing a robust client network and community outreach program, the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank distributes food to more than 115 member agencies in Louisiana. The organization’s efforts include a Backpack program for children who receive the majority of their food from free or reduced-price school breakfast and lunches. On weekends and over school breaks, thousands of these children are at risk for hunger.

To combat food insecurity in school-aged children, the Backpacks program fills backpacks with nutritious, child-friendly snacks for students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Students receive the backpacks on Friday at school and return them empty on Monday.
