Coming from Arcoverde, in the semi-arid interior of Pernambuco, the Samba de Coco Irmãs Lopes receives this name in 2000, as a way to honor the three sisters Severina Lopes, Minininha (Leni Lopes) and Dourada (Josefa Lopes) and also as a rescue ancestral memory of the Lopes Family and Afro-Brazilian Culture.

They are the Masters of the 3rd generation of the family Coco. The Lopes had great prominence in Arcoverde in the 1970s and 1980s through their older brother Ivo Lopes, known as the "Arcoverde Coco King". Ivo Lopes de Lima was born on May 31, 1931, in Arcoverde, at the time Rio Branco. After the death of his father Laurentino Lopes de Lima, he continued to play with the Coco together with his mother Joventina Maria da Conceição and her sisters. Ivo was a radio broadcaster for Rádio Cardeal and circulated around the city with "Caravana do Ivo" [Ivo's Caravan], presentations of popular culture.

In 2013, Severina Lopes was awarded in the Masters category of the "Prêmio Culturas Populares 2012: Edição 100 Anos de Mazzaropi - A Cultura Popular no Cinema", by the Citizenship and Cultural Diversity Secretariat of the Ministry of Culture, Federal Government, Brazil . She, together with her family, maintains the Cultural Association Samba de Coco Irmãs Lopes and decided to apply the prize resource to the production and realization of the group's CD.
