Digital mock-up of the final compositions
The image above is the digital mock-up of my final compositions. Each design went through many revisions and edits over the course of two weeks. The first design is Stempel Garamond LT Std, a serif font. The second image is Neue Haas Grotesk Display Pro which is a sans-serif font. Both were created with the same goal in mind, to create a successful composition with variety and simplicity.

For this project, I was asked to create two compositions using 5-8 letters. Each composition needed to be done in different fonts. The fonts were Stempel Garamond LT Std and Neue Haas Grotesk Display Pro. One font was serif and one was sans serif. The final compositions had to be in black and white, no color. There had to be at least 2 letters/numbers that were black and 2 letters/numbers that were white.

I started by sketching different options for both fonts. Then I took the sketches and placed them in Ai, so that I could create them digitally. The digital images looked different than the original sketches because I revised and edited as I created them. After revision, editing, and feedback, I created two final images of the compositions that were the most successful.
Stempel Garamond LT Std is a serif font which means it has feet. The design is successful because it has variety and scale.
Neue Haas Grotesk Display Pro is a sans-serif font which means it does not have any feet on the edges of the letters. This design is successful because it has simplicity and isolation.
