SOME RESEARCH ON COVID-19 & ISOLATION
The Coronavirus pandemic has imposed severe restrictions on where we can go and how we socialise, forcing into relief the subject of the individual and their connection to a wider community and within this a wide spectrum of themes have emerged eg. the immediate issues of social welfare and the duty of the state, isolationism and the duty of the individual, stoicism and the national character, the human need for connection and equally the necessity for escapism. Social commentators have a wide variety of responses to these themes from the panic of the tabloids to the humour of the social meme. Photography and viral video have played a big part, from the pictures of empty capital streets, to remedies for self-isolation boredom. These events present an opportunity to us as photographers to explore our own personal response to this live and ongoing crisis.
