Hand Lettering — Environmental Impact

Hand done type was combined with different materials in order to show how humans have impacted the environment. The video format helps to convey how the landscape changes over time.
RELENTLESS: SHOWING OR PROMISING NO ABATEMENT OF SEVERITY, INTENSITY, STRENGTH, OR PACE
The forest fires that sweep over the Earth’s landscape show no mercy for the animals, trees, and indiginous people who reside in and protect the land. The fires start small, grow in intensity, become out of control, and leave a decimated landscape in their place. Many of these fires are directly or indirectly caused by humans. In a world where the short term economic benefits of expansion and exploitation are valued over protecting our land it is crucial to fight back against the institutions that contribute to the increased amount of forest fires we are seeing across the globe, most notably in Australia, the Amazon, and California.

VANISH: TO PASS COMPLETELY FROM EXISTENCE
Our polar ice caps and our world’s glaciers have been receding exponentially over the last hundred years. The decline of the polar ice caps is a stark indicator of how we are impacting our world via climate change and rising global temperatures. If we do not make radical changes in the ways we are living on and treating our Earth, it will not be long before the world’s ice disappears forever
RUPTURE: AN INSTANCE OF BREAKING OR BURSTING SUDDENLY AND COMPLETELY
One fracture in a pipeline or malfunction on an oil rig can lead to hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil to spread across the Earth’s oceans. The detrimental effects of extracting and utilizing mass amounts of oil is evident as we see how these spills are affecting marine life and our environment. The oil from these spills is toxic to the wildlife residing in the area, including sea birds and fur-covered mammals. The cleanup and restoration process can be just as invasive. For example, burning off the oil leads to air pollution, and using chemical dispersants in the water can increase the toxicity of the oil and threaten the biodiversity of the environment even further. As we move forward, it is important to consider how our industrial world impacts the ocean’s delicate ecosystems. Now more than ever, our world, government, institutions, and people need to support and invest in environmentally friendly and sustainable ways of generating energy.
